1.1 The Chair welcomed Members to the meeting of the Children, Young People and Education Committee.
1.2 The Chair thanked Jayne Bryant MS who had chaired the Committee since 2021, She wished her all the best in her new role as Minister for Metal Health and Early Years.
1.3 The Chair also thanked James Evans MS, Ken Skates MS and Laura Jones MS for their time on the Committee. She welcomed the Committee’s new Members, Hefin David MS, Gareth Davies MS, Tom Gifford MS and Jack Sargeant MS and looked forward to working with them all.
1.4 There were no apologies.
2.1 The motion was agreed.
3.1 Members received an oral update on the
engagement activities that have taken place for the third
check-in.
4.1 The Committee heard evidence from the Cabinet Secretary for Education.
4.2 The Cabinet Secretary agreed to provide the Committee with a breakdown of funding that had been spent on implementing the new ALN system to date and how much is allocated in the 2024-25 budget.
4.3 The Committee agreed to write to the Cabinet Secretary with the questions that were unasked.
5.1 The papers were noted.
6.1 The Committee considered the evidence it had heard in the previous session.
6.2 The Committee agreed to write to the
Minister to follow-up on some issues raised during the session and
agreed to publish an interim report.
8.1 Members agreed to discuss rescheduling this item after the Cabinet Secretary’s statement next week on delivering Wales’ education priorities.
